What is Taslan?

Taslan fabric is a modern, high-performance textile that blends the durability of synthetic fibers with the soft, cotton-like feel we love in natural fabrics. Originally developed using a special air-texturing process, Taslan is typically made from nylon or polyester yarn. It’s widely used in sportswear, outdoor gear, military uniforms, and casual outerwear, anywhere you need a lightweight yet tough material.

Taslan can be made with either ATY (air-textured yarn) or DTY (drawn- textured yarn). Taslan made with ATY is a little loftier and more common in North America. Taslan is also known for its construction: 70 denier yarn in the warp and 2-ply 70 denier (140) used in the fill.

Unlike traditional smooth synthetic fabrics, Taslan has more loft and structure, giving garments a more natural drape and feel. It’s also stronger and more abrasion-resistant than cotton, with less tendency to pill or fade.

How Air-Textured Taslan is Made?

Air-textured Taslan starts with smooth nylon or polyester filament yarns. A high-pressure air nozzle is used to entangle the yarn, causing the fibers to crimp and tangle and making them bulkier and softer, more like cotton. The textured yarn is then woven (usually in plain or twill weaves) and often treated with performance finishes like DWR or UV protection.

Key Features of Taslan

Taslan stands out for combining comfort with durability. Here are the top key features that make Taslan a popular choice in performance and everyday wear:

  • Durability: Thanks to its synthetic roots and tight weave, Taslan resists tears, scuffs, and abrasion.
  • Water-Resistant: Often treated with DWR (Durable Water Repellent)
  • Breathable & Quick-Drying: Great for activewear, Taslan doesn’t trap moisture like old-school nylons.
  • Soft Hand: Feels more like cotton than a synthetic fabric, without the extra weight or shrinking.
  • Wrinkle-Resistant: Makes it great for travel and uniforms.
  • Easy to Print or Dye: Polyester Taslan is chosen when dye sublimating.

Common applications of Taslan

  • Activewear: Track pants, running shorts, lightweight jackets.
  • Outerwear: Windbreakers, raincoats, softshells.
  • Uniforms: Police, military, tactical gear, protective armor.
  • Backpacks & Accessories: Thanks to its toughness and water resistance.
  • Urban Casualwear: Great for fashion-forward techwear brands.
